a great example

So, this is a great example of why "every day" (каждый день) is so important. Last week I left Minneapolis for Huron, South Dakota to attend the wake and funeral for my aunt Cherryl. It was a great ceremony and, as often times happens at funerals, you don't want to be there under the circumstances, but it's great opportunity to spend time with family that you haven't seen in many years.

My "every day" comment goes more to how I (or we as people) continue to work toward our goals "every day" despite changes in our situation, things that are out of our control, etc.

Example: my physical goals for the month are/were to....run 80 miles in October, work out 4-5 days a week, cut out fast food, soda and eat more lean meats, fruits and veggies.

Well, from last Thursday when I arrived in Huron and drove back to Minneapolis on Sunday I:  didn't run once, didn't work out once, drank soda (mixed in drinks) and ate a lot of complex carbs and red meat. I could use the excuse that I was at a wake and funeral so I was surrounded by people drinking and eating, but it's really just that....an excuse.

From this momentum of bad habits that ran from Thursday - Sunday, I arrived back in Minneapolis and instead of shifting gears to get myself back on track...I continued these bad habits by:  not working out, not running and eating "bad foods" (pizza, fried chicken, beer).

I have seen this pattern time and time again in my life. Bad habits lead to more bad habits...and good habit lead to more good habits. And that's one of the main goals of this blog and my life...to work "every day" to follow good habits...so I can follow those good habits with more good habits.

There are so many books I have read over the years that speak to this:

"The Greatest Salesman in the World" - by Og Mandino
"Think and Grow Rich" - by Napoleon Hill
"The Other Wes Moore" - by Wes Moore
"Battlefield of the Mind" - by Joyce Meyer

So, beginning now...today...here we go again...

I had a great time last week attending my first MN fashion week (MN Fashion Week), having the opportunity to attend most of the events during the week. Following are photos from the Envision Fashion Show (Envision Artopia 2012). Over the next several days I'll also post photos from the Vintage Did it First event/show, You & Me: In-Store Showcase, the Emerging Designers Showcase, The Shows, and Full Fashion Panic.

the beginning

каждый день (phonetically: kazhdyy dyen)

It's one of my favorite words in the Russian language. It translates to "every day" in English.

This blog, my thoughts shared within, the photos posted here, etc. will have the goal of bringing something new every day. Because, as we all should learn at some point in our lives, we only get to be and become our true selves by the effort we make everyday.
